Electricity
The City of Burwell owns and operates its own electrical distribution
system. Additional sources of electricity are purchased through the Municipal
Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) and the Western Area Power Administration
(WAPA). MEAN uses Burwell’s power plant for peak, emergency, and
stand-by needs. The capacity of Burwell’s power plant is 4,076 kW.
The city's peak demand is 3,137 kW. Prospective customers are encouraged

Natural
Gas
Natural gas service is distributed to the community by Kinder Morgan (www.kindermorgan.com).
A four-inch main line serves the community with 17 PSI pressure. Natural
gas service is available to both residential and commercial customers.
Natural gas
customers in Burwell can choose their supplier by completing a selection
form. Prospective customers are encouraged to contact Kinder Morgan (800.215.3035),
Oneok (877.274.5710) and/or ACE (Public Alliance for Community Energy)
(800.454.4759) for information on current gas rates and service.
Water
Service
The City of Burwell owns and operates its own water system. The city has
three wells with an average depth of 300 feet. The quality of water in
Burwell does not necessitate a water treatment plant. Prospective customers
are encouraged to contact the City of Burwell at 308.346.4509 for information
on current water rates and service.
Sewer
Service
The City of Burwell owns and operates its own sewer system. The system
is a trickling filter system. For further information on the city’s
sanitary sewer service, prospective customers are encouraged to contact
the City of Burwell at 308.346.4509.
Sanitation
The City of Burwell has a contract with the Calamus Refuse, Inc. to haul
refuse. Calamus Refuse, Inc. provides weekly trash pick-up services to
all residential customers and commercial pick-up is available weekly or
more often as requested. Yard waste disposal is available at the Burwell
Transfer Station. For further information on the city's sanitation services

Communications
Telecommunications
Nebraska Central Telephone Company (NCTC) (www.nctc.net)
provides telecommunications service to the Burwell community. Customers
have a choice of approximately 15 long distance service providers. Perspective
customers are encouraged to contact NCTC at 888.873.6282.
Internet
Local Internet service is provided by Cable Nebraska and NCTC. Cable Nebraska
(www.cablene.com)
provides high-speed cable Internet access. NCTC (www.nctc.net)
provides dial-up and high-speed Internet access. For more information

Mail
Package Service
Community members and businesses have 3 means of Mail Package Service
in Burwell. The United States Postal Service provides house and post office
box delivery. The post office has one mail receipt and two dispatches
Monday-Saturday. UPS provides daily pick-up and delivery service. UPS
provides overnight delivery from Burwell or second and third-day delivery
is also available. FedEx provides drop-off services in the community Monday-Friday.
A FedEx drop box is located 16 miles southeast of Burwell, which is picked
up daily.

Transportation
Air
The Burwell Airport is located less than one mile west of the city limits
and has a 3,200-foot lighted concrete runway and an elevation of 2,100
feet. The airport does have private aircraft storage available. The Central
Nebraska Regional Airport near Grand Island is 78 miles southeast of Burwell
and the Kearney Municipal Airport is 86 miles south of Burwell.
Ground
Burwell is served by Nebraska two-lane Highways 11 (north-south) and 91
(east-west). Interstate 80 is 78 miles south of Burwell. U.S. Highway
281 is the nearest four-lane highway to the community running north and
south. Three (3) motor carrier companies serve the Burwell area, these
include Brown Transfer, Con-Way and K-Truck Line. The community is also
served by a number of privately owned trucks that haul livestock and hay.
Railroad
Burwell’s nearest railroad access is 16 miles southeast in Ord,
which is served by Nebraska Central Railroad Company (NCRC).
